Most people can afford to adopt, but it may take good financial planning. There are organizations focused on helping make it financially possible for you to adopt through loans, grants, or subsidies, and many creative couples have found ways to raise at least some of the money on their own.
Here are some ways to help afford an adoption:
Ask a family member for a loan (they just might give it as a gift);
Can you borrow against a retirement plan?
Find out if your employer has adoption benefits; this could be $2,0000 or more;
Some placing parents may have private insurance or Medicaid;
Check to see if your insurance policy will cover adoption medical expenses for the birth mother after the adoption (this is becoming much more common);
ANLC is a leading adoption legal practice, specializing in domestic newborn adoptions, and provides service throughout the US. Our Adoption Consultants will be happy to discuss the adoption process with you.
