13. They Recognize The Strong Spiritual Dimension that is Present in Adoption:

I have found that the spiritual dimension that is present in adoption matters transcends all denominational and sectarian boundaries. It seems to provide the greatest strength and benefit for those adoptive couples that are able to temper their adoption experiences and efforts with the faith and prayers that are necessary for them to become sensitive to what our Father in Heaven has in store for them and their families.

These couples also seem to have a much better appreciation for the fact that because children are created in the "Image of God," there are no imperfect or defective children. Their hearts and lives are in tune with the Savior’s own declaration of his strong feelings about children, when he said:

". . . whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me."
(Matthew 18:5)

The adoption process is not so much about "finding" what you want when you want it, as it is about preparing yourself to "receive" what is right for you when the time is right. This process of receiving cannot be rushed or forced. It takes time, patience, a firm faith that God knows and wants what is best for you, and a confidence that He is in charge. Many of the more spiritually sensitive couples I have known are now very fulfilled and happy parents to wonderful children that they had never realized could bring such joy and happiness into their lives. They would have missed these choice experiences if they hadn’t been patient and sensitive to the spiritual dimensions of adoption.

If you are able to understand and partake of the spiritual dimensions of adoption, your heart will be filled with an inner peace that will comfort you in your times of doubt, strengthen you in your conviction that you are doing the right thing, encourage you in your efforts to prepare yourself to be the right parents for the right child, and fill you with gratitude for the time you will have to prepare your home, your family and your hearts for the children that will be sent to you when the time is right for you and for them. I have no way of knowing where your path will take you as you work yourself through the adoption experience, because it is very different for everyone that goes through it, but I am confident that it will fill your heart, your life and your journey with a level of joy that will defy all description.

I strongly encourage you to make the conscious choice to do what it will take in your life to join the ranks of the many happy couples that have successfully built their families through adoption. If you do, it will happen for you.
